Anamatronic Endoskelatons!
While we make our robot? skeleton? other thing with hands? models, Its good to start by looking at a hand we know works to see what we can learn from it. Let’s see how we can take inspiration from our own bone structure!
This same technique is the structure that is used to make robot hands and even prosthetic hands for people with limb differences.
Materials
Let’s build a hand!!
Start by tracing your hand
Grab a piece of paper and trace your hand.
Make sure to leave a bit of room between your fingers to make it easier to trace.

Mark Joints
Bend and flex each finger. Mark a line on the paper everywhere your fingers bend.
The joints in our hand represent hinge joints that allow movement in one direction

Darken/Smooth Outline
To make sure your hand is easy to see to make cutting easier.
Smooth out and wonky lines to make your hand look nicer.

Cut out hand on outline
Grab scissors and cut out your hand on the lines you darkened.

Trim “bones” to the right length
Mark with pencil and cut straws to be shorter than each segment of your finger.
Leaving marks where joints are open so fingers can bend.
Leave about a straws width between each straw segment.

Hot Glue “bones”
Hot glue down each bone segment onto your paper hand.

Cut string, thread straw & double knot on stopper beads
Cut string longer than the length of the bones for each finger.
Each finger will have a string that runs from fingertip to wrist.
To make sure the strings don’t fall out when the fingers are moved, we will tie beads to the ends of the strings by the finger tips of each fingertip.

Keep threading all your fingers
Using a different color thread and bead for each finger will make it easier to operate your hand once it’s all threaded.

Secure stopper beads
Use a dab of hot glue to attach tied bead so ends of finger bones.

Let’s test it out
Try out every fine and make sure they are all moving the way you would like them to.
Look how cool :)
