Overview

Students will construct a chipboard house using only hand tools.

Materials/tools

• 1/16” chipboard (cut into 6”x8” stock pieces)
• 18mm Olfa knives (1 per person, have a lefty ready)
• 18mm blades
• Sharps container
• Cut resistant gloves (1 pair per person)
• Straight edges (1 per person)
• Cutting mats
• White glue
• Wood sticks (for applying glue)
• Pencils (1 per person)

Safety

• Retract blade if you are not using it.
• A sharp knife is safer than a dull knife. Snap away blades often!
• Push hard on the straight edge, light on the knife.
• Don’t cut in a single pass.
• Cut on a sturdy surface, NEVER off the table.
• Where will the knife go if you slip?
• Use cut resistant gloves.
• Don’t use a plastic straight edge (unless it has a metal edge).
